Ausseerland is the area of the Salzkammergut which lies in the province Steiermark (Styria).
The Ausseerland, is a small region in the Styrian Salzkammergut. It is located in the northwest of the Steiermark (Styria) and borders with Upper Austria. Characterized by is by numerous lakes and the surrounded by Limestone Alps, the Dachstein massif, Sarsteinstock, Sandling and “Dead” Mountains.
Altaussee
The Ausseerland is a distinct region with its cultural peculiarities. The three municipalities (Bad Aussee, Altaussee and Grundlsee ) are located in a valley, the Ausseer basin, which is bounded to the west by the Pötschenpass, to the south by the Kopp Pass, the Radling- and Rötelstein passes to the east and the Dead Mountains to the north.
Hiking on Sarsteinstock
This is a beautiful area, often little known outside of Austria. It offers year round holiday opportunities. There are the tranquil lakes of Grundlsee and Altausee, excellent skiing at snow sure Tauplitz and Loser, and wonderful walking and cycling trails. There are excellent thermal spas at Bad Aussee and Bad Mitterndorf, top class golf course at Bad Aussee and picture postcard villages.

In summer the area is ideal for walking, cycling, mountain biking and paragliding.
In winter it is a short drive to the skiing at Dachstein West and Loser Sandling.
